Name-Based Case Searches
There is no county-built public docket portal here. Instead, Renville County relies on Minnesota Court Records Online, or MCRO. Accept the acknowledgement and pick Name. A person search needs a last name and a first name; the middle name is optional. A business search works off the business name. One caution: Renville County name matching is exact unless you choose a permitted wildcard or a Sounds Like search.
- Choose Name, select Person or Business, and enter the required Renville County name fields.
- For a person, try the exact name first. Test a middle name or initial separately when it may narrow a common result.
- Open Additional Search Options to select Renville County, a case category, case status, or a filed-date or date-of-birth filter.
- Select Find, review the result row, and open Case Details for the public Register of Actions.
Wildcards have limits. MCRO allows a trailing asterisk, but only after at least two characters. Sounds Like catches similar spellings starting with the same letter. It cannot be combined with a wildcard. If a Renville County search comes back empty, change one thing at a time. Do not assume the court holds no file.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Yes for a person | Exact by default; wildcard or Sounds Like are separate options. |
| First Name | Text | Yes for a person | Middle name is optional and can be tested separately. |
| Case Category | Checkboxes | No | Civil, Criminal, Family, or Probate or Mental Health. |
| Case Status | Dropdown | No | All, Active, or Inactive. |
| Date Filed or Date of Birth | Date control | No | Use an exact date or a range in MM/DD/YYYY format. |
Renville County Case Search Modes
MCRO offers four modes. Any of them can serve a Renville County case lookup: Name, Case Number, Citation Number, and Attorney. Attorney mode takes a name or a full Minnesota license number. A county selector allows a statewide sweep or selected county locations. Choosing Renville County sharpens a broad query. The statewide source stays the same behind it.
Match the mode to what you actually hold. A citation number is not a case number. An attorney search does not replace the party-based tools. Find runs the query; Clear wipes the search or the selected counties. In results, use MCRO's breadcrumb links instead of the browser Back button. The service warns against the Back button. The official Renville County court page names MCRO as the public online route. It points case-specific questions to Court Administration.
Case Number Searches
A complete Renville County case number is often the sharpest MCRO query. Type it with no spaces. Dashes or leading zeros are optional, but a partial case or citation number triggers an error. When a calendar or notice hands you a number, keep it exactly as written and search the full value before falling back on a broader Renville County name search.
The Renville County calendar has displayed 65-CR-26-178. It opens with an observed local identifier, then case-category letters, a year segment, and a sequence number. Treat that format as a search aid only. The Case Information panel still identifies the actual file.
Renville County Case Number Codes
Renville County calendar examples include 65-FA-15-67, 65-CV-26-82, 65-CO-26-81, 65-PR-26-30, 65-JV-25-42, and 65-VB-26-162. The observed letters line up with family, civil, conciliation, probate, juvenile, and violation-bureau-style traffic matters.
Two letters prove nothing. Do not read a judgment out of a Renville County case number. Do not read a charge level or confidential status into it either. The calendar is not an official codebook. Search the complete number. Then check the title, case type, and Register of Actions in Case Details to see what the file truly represents.
Case Search Results Explained
A Renville County result row in MCRO is just an identification record. It shows the case number. The title or style, case type, filing date, court location, and status appear too. Open Case Details for the public Register of Actions. That is the stronger source for events and hearings. Even so, it stays an unofficial remote view, not a certified court record.
| Case Number | The Renville County identifier used to reopen the record, documents, or hearing search. |
|---|---|
| Style or Parties | The public caption and party information that distinguish files with similar names. |
| Case Type | The category shown by MCRO, which is not itself a disposition or final outcome. |
| Date Filed | The filing date shown in Case Information, useful with the Date Filed filter. |
| Status | The displayed case status; read case events and dispositions for the full public context. |
| Hearings and Events | Upcoming and past hearing information plus events, with the newest case events first. |
Renville County Case Details Panels
A Renville County Register of Actions can include several panels. The list runs Overview, Case Information, Party Information, Warrants, Charges, Interim Conditions, Case Assignment, Case Events, Hearings, Dispositions, Bond or Bail Activity, and Financial Information when present. Case Events may list a document index number beside a View Document button. An index number alone does not guarantee a public image is attached.
MCRO also runs narrower tools. The official MCRO Judgment Search is one of them, limited to judgment records rather than full case files.
Judgment Search covers monetary judgments only. It shows judgment parties, details, and recorded satisfactions. For a full Renville County case history, use Case Details instead of treating a judgment result as the whole court file.
Two Ways to Search: County and State
MCRO is statewide, with a Renville County location filter. Renville County runs no separate public docket portal of its own. The second route is local: Court Administration and the courthouse public terminal, which can reach more public records than remote MCRO. So search remotely to locate a public file. Then go local when the record seems incomplete or needs to be certified.
| MCRO Remote Route | Renville County Court Route |
|---|---|
| Statewide Case Search with an optional Renville County filter. | Renville County Court Administration and the public-access terminal at the courthouse. |
| Unofficial public Register of Actions, search results, and available documents. | More complete public electronic access where remote rules exclude a record, plus copy processing. |
| Best when a name, number, citation, or attorney search can identify a file. | Best when a Renville County result is missing, older, needs confirmation, or requires certification. |
Renville County Case Search Fallbacks
A blank result is not a dead end in Renville County. Start by searching the full case number. A pending criminal or traffic matter can slip past a defendant-name search. Then work through the name variations one at a time: exact name with no middle name, an initial, a full middle name, a permitted wildcard, and Sounds Like. Keep the wildcard and Sounds Like separate. Never stack them in one query.
Need a court date? Try the Renville County Court Schedule, or run the MCRO Hearing Search by number or date. If the online route stays murky, use the public terminal. You can also call Renville County Court Administration at 320-523-3680, or stop at the counter at 500 E. DePue Avenue in Olivia. The official Contact Court by Email route works too, whether the question is a missing setting or an older electronic record. When the remote view falls short, Court Administration can point you to a copy request, certified or exemplified copies included.
Which Cases Stay Restricted
The Minnesota Rules of Public Access set the outer limits on Renville County remote access. Sealed records stay sealed. Restricted identifiers may get different treatment. So can juvenile matters and certain confidential family, probate, civil-commitment, domestic-abuse, harassment, and child-protection material. One caution applies here. A document missing from view is not the same as a case that does not exist, and a public docket entry can leave sensitive details out on purpose.
Family cases and post-adjudication paternity matters are a special case in MCRO, which may display only court-prepared orders, opinions, and notices. Confidential or sealed material is different. It means going through Court Administration, plus the Minnesota Judicial Branch request process whenever a judicial decision is required. Do not try to rebuild redacted information from other sources.
Renville County Case Search Limits
Rule 8 of the Minnesota Rules of Public Access draws a real line between remote electronic access and what a courthouse terminal offers. That rule shapes what a Renville County docket search can show. MCRO is the remote view the rules allow. It is not a promise that every public record or attachment lives online. Older files may still take a terminal visit. So may pending matters excluded from name search, and some public material may take a call to Court Administration.
The split is worth keeping straight for any Renville County lookup. A remote search tells you a case exists. The court's own terminal or records counter may then be the way to reach additional public material the docket search cannot deliver.
Renville County Case Search Tools
MCRO also includes Document Search. It needs a complete case number, and it lists documents newest first. Downloads of public documents through MCRO cost nothing. Just remember that a remote download is not a certified copy. Enter the Renville County case number exactly as issued. Use no spaces. Open Case Details when a document listing needs event context.
For dates, Hearing Search is the tool; for money judgments, Judgment Search. Anything beyond them falls back to Renville County Court Administration. That includes certified records, exemplified records, older files, and questions the public tools cannot answer. One more thing. The county Recorder is not a substitute for the District Court Register of Actions.
